Little England

 snow flakes???

It must be   around 13Degrees F, when she first arrived at Fraser Hill ,   over the holiday weekend. The wind chills the bones. It had been pouring earlier, and even after it stopped, the slight dizzle continued. The dark overcast skies, the dense fog ... it almost looked like snow flakes...you will be forgiven if you thought you were standing on British soil.

An angel called  nephew

Chilly wind swept around you ,leaving a thin layer of mist, damp  upon your upturn face......and you shivered a little...it was  the clue to pull the sweater and hood a little closer......

This Writer was visiting, Little England of Malaysia.....courtesy of her sibling and her family ...She counts her blessings, and she felt so blessed for that kind invitation because that was meant to be a  close family affair. You know,  the type of holiday where you bond in the bliss of  family togetherness. And as she watched the  family showering love  upon their mother...it was very special feeling..... gladness....very cherished  and she was thankful, some of  those love rays  embraced her as well...Thank you guys, it was wonderful of you   to invite  aunt along  , to what should have been  just  family bear hugging time-a privilege indeed! God Bless!

In the morning, out in the opened air,  when YT was enjoying the view across the golf course,..... she spotted two  long trails of mist drifting  towards her....like smoke from a chimmey...like breath from huge unseen nostrils........ Mystical and enthralling! Mr. Wind...was gently puffing.... and .it was  marvelously chilly... her face was cold to the touch...great facial therapy! Guaranteed no more open pores!

Nature was at its best..jungle and vegetation surrounds you .....plus you have all the comforts of  civilization  too-what more could you wish for?..A fantastic place to connect with higher powers...a wonderful place to absorb some stillness.....and get some balance back into life's living.

The gang took her  trekking along Herman Trail ...one of the many jungle trekking paths available. It was awesome. If it were not for thick blankets of mist and the rain, she would have covered the other jungle paths as well! The waterfall was at its gushing best because of the rain  -It was a very  heavy down pour, indeed.  Even with big shades of umbrellas, we were drenched . But it was a sight to behold and  well worth getting wet..

Hei People! if you are seriously  looking for some peace and quiet...family togetherness and pure relaxation, pack your bags and head for  our very own Frasers Hill. It is really something  during the cooler months...you get the best of both world-great weather, beautiful greens.  space and time to appreciate nature and  tone that physic of yours. Plus- Plenty of eateries around...western, local Asian dishes......Chinese, Malay and Indian....you name it....they have it all. But if you prefer  DIY , they have a great place where you could BBQ. Plenty of apartments which allows you to cook too. Check  with the Resort's management office, before you head there.

And People, the Gap House is no more, you now have the convenience of one way up and down the other side..no more waiting time ...You have freedom of travelling up and down any time you fancy.. Though, It is advisable to travel when it is  still bright - the mist and fog could be  impossibly thick, during bad weather- you get blanket in and cannot even see a meter ahead of you. Caution-The road is  too narrow and winding  for you to stop anywhere, stopping would endanger you and others travelling up and down, but once up there, if you are nature lover-it is really quite heavenly!

Love & Presence

It is the intimacy with God that counts  and not the external!! That's today's  beautiful message from our visiting priest Father Albert .

The story of John and David...shared by our good priest, is something that is happening in our everyday lives. There are those who picture success as material , and there are others who finds joy in helping others. And the good moral is that the one who gives and cares for others-finds life more rewarding ultimately.

We are living in a very materialistic world , where the norm is  insatiable wants- the  more and more. Love and the all important  presence is almost always, sidelined, in favour of social and business obligations. People who should matter most,  were pushed  into  the shadows.... They were put last and starved for attention and love.

Possessions, status, prestige and the $$$$$$$, were often mistaken for happiness. It is utter rubbish , the general notion that so long as  a man provides and puts food on the table, he has fulfilled his obligations. He has forgotten to add in the most important element-love. Far from truth too,  that a man's worth is his material assets and his social standing. Where would he be, without God and the people in his lives??? Can he be an empty shell without his living tissues and  body mass- the important components of his being? Money and security does help it is true, never doubt that, but if  a man chased after these earthy treasures so much that he  forgets the all important essence of living-love  and neglect the people in his lives..... he will only have himself to blame if love deserts him and one fine day, he wakes up to an empty house- a cold empty world  of loneliness.  A man must know his commitment and his responsibilities; but make that complete with  love,  time, presence and attention to the  people in his life as well.  He needs to create and formulate balance. Love motivates more love ...more positive reactions. It keeps relationships and inter-relations in  harmonious evolution .. That is   the wealth that loves gives, life's meaning and substance, peace and happiness from  the beginning, till journey's  end.

Keep the spirit of love alive and living people!

Back to work again???

It has been three months since this blogger chose to stay home. During this time, she did what she wanted to do, she wrote, she went to a couple of places, she did her round of visiting and attended seminars, the works -lah,! Only she did not  get to sleep as much as she  wanted -would you believe it? She was just too busy and the days were passing faster than when she was working. Now the itch to get back into the work force has resurfaced , ever since the talk emerged that  the private sector might  adopt 60 as the retirement age as well. This writer thought that was a good move and only wished they had taken action earlier.

First preference was a part time job- that would be ideal- but in this very small town where she lives, part time employers are few, real few, so she is thinking of going back to work  full time again. People prefer full timers, for goodness sake!. ?Goodness know why,  there are so few part-time opportunities out there. A job in home territory??  That would very much depend on how home territory view their  Autumners.  But  she must say, a couple of years more does wonder for the retirement nest-that is , if employers treat seniors the same as their younger staff force and give them the same benefits plus a reasonable pay , not mere pocket money. Healthy seniors are more than capable of producing high quality work!

She would love to be that hawker lady  dishing out her plateful of  chay kueh teow or  open her small fried chicken stall , her fried chicken is really the best! But she guess, nobody wants her to scald and burnt her fingers and hands and you do need home support there. Who knows the first grade butter might just  melt and vapourised into thin air!

Writing was real fun,and addictive-but  best confined to a free period when  she could write the occasional articles whenever inspiration strikes.  More enjoyable that way. In fact, she had more time to blog and rest her eyes when she was working. Now there is like, no blogging time at all.But of course more serious writing takes over.   And again, she is thinking- it's time  she does a bit of volunteer work to give back a little to community.

Contemplating  the options - thinking real hard. See lah!

New Eucharistic Responses

This is the third week , since the  new Roman Missal  was introduced. Surprisingly,  it wasn’t as tough as this Writer thought it was.. She is actually adapting  quite well to the changes , huge thanks to the power point guide during mass. Incline neck (neck bow)  and  full bow (from the waist) are getting more synergised-   the  tangled mass of  mixed up  nods, bows and confusion plus the   annoyance of self lacking were no more. Even the explanations to the changes   sounded more  interesting  and has become a  source of  good knowledge. Guess, It was just the mindset thing.  Unclogged and pour in some flexibility and  the engine purrs on smoothly.  The faster we adopt, the better we learn and the earlier, it blends into routine.

Of  course it tickles the resistance into submission, knowing that  priests have  more learning to do than lay people. So if we stumble over the terms and acts of reverence, they stumble  as well -initially of course. Priests  are as much humans as we are but then, they  have a way of getting up faster than we lay people. They need to,  because they are shepherds and it is their conviction to teach and  lead .

Strive on ! March on , Christian soldiers of God!

Guardian Angel

Herald, the  Catholic Weekly ran an article (Oct 9th issue) on the  Pope's call to all Christians - call upon their guardian angels for help throughout their life. The writer remembers as a school girl, she enjoys stories of angels,  believed in them and still do. Being a student of a  mission school, there were plenty of  angels reminders and daily references to angels. If we were ever afraid of any spooky corners in school,, the nuns would ask us, why were we afraid, when we have  guardian angels watching over us. When some one told a lie , did something wrong and  did not  own up to their misdeeds, there were always the reminder, that their guardian angels were crying and hurting because  the guilty ones, were  allowing the black creatures  to lord over their guardian angels and it was pretty mean and bad ... especially  their guardian angels had worked  so hard to look after them, loved  and protected them. . ...Those reminders have kept the school chapel a very popular place to retreat for a session of   guilt healing, plus the opportunity to  own up to any misdeeds.

Angels have always conjured  images of safety, caring , protection etc..it was a comfortable feeling.....remember instances when??? you were walking down the  street and a falling flower pot  miss you by just a mere  fraction? Or a car screeched to a halt just before your bumper., avoiding an accident..or you were lost somewhere and crying for deliverance and suddenly out of the blues, you hear a familiar voice? Presence of angels? Decide for yourselves.

Just Wondering

Rituals are very much a part of  Catholic  Eucharistic celebrations  and   parish communities and  that has set us apart  from the other churches - special, beautiful  and in a way- very, very   endearing.

Simple and  from the heart
Changes  are something we conform to , as members of the same community....however one   cannot help but feel that sometimes too much may end up with less. Will it have the desired results, it  was  meant to  have , or will it have the opposite effect- less of God and more  acts of  conformity???   Just wondering, just wondering.

God is still relevant

Proverbs 19:14 says
House and wealth are inherited from fathers
but a prudent wife is from the Lord!

Still valid eh folks??.Parents can continue to give, and give and give...but a  good wife, you have to find yourself  and if you are lucky ( shall we say deserving??), it comes gift-wrapped  from heaven..and that person stays by your side,, supportive and loving till death do you part. And we do have much need of such gifts from heaven (gifts of good man and woman)  do we not people?  ..open your eyes to .the way modern living is bashing up the marriage institution. Media has it that certain groups in the West is in favour of temporary marriages or rather contract marriages where they do consummate the marriage but it is renewable on a monthly or yearly basis...with no fixed period of time. Any point of time, the "married couple" feels stifled and wants out, they are free to  end the contract and move on...How about that? Too much  liberated use of will- has caused certain group of society to come up with the notion, that it is alright to  introduce new standards for convenience to keep up with the changing needs of people. Do we need such convenience, can we cope with the repercussions-, will such rootlessness  poison instead of benefits?

To keep up with the advances of the knowledge and technology world...the new rule states that we learn the lingo of the new generation, to bridge the generation gap. But look around you people, the world is becoming more chaotic ...because the new world thinks the wisdom of the old is no longer relevant and the old must cleave to the new. They think - God and religion is a thing of the past-old fashion. In many parts of the world, people are leaving God and striking out on their own, yet  at the same time, may are returning by the troves to touch God again and be re-connect back to him.. After a liberated period of  self destruction , they find themselves sinking and unable to cope with the darkness surrounding them, and the  loss of peace which they have taken for granted, while He was with them.  They seek out gurus, they search the world for answers, only  to come back to the beginning -the start of the circle and discover that the missing link is God and  it is His stabilizing power, they need., Like the prodigal son, they  begin their  journey back to their Father's House seeking forgiveness and reconciliation. Do we need to go around in circles? Do we need the destruction of all our values, confusion in our lives before we come to our senses that  we need God and it is His  Power that brings in the focus and the peace of our lives ???. Everything good  begins and complete with GOD!! Be Awaken!!

New Roman Missal Cathechesis

The winds of change is sweeping across the Catholic Churches of Malaysia, starting October 2011. . A new Roman missal -changes in words and expressions... change from the present modern version back to the original practice for Eucharistic celebrations - and that change has begun...and will  be gradually blended in for ease of transition-  and also to  enable parishioners get used to the new terms and expressions, without undue confusion. Nothing revolutionary, just a reversal  (back) to the original form, what was already in existence... words,terms, practice...-closer to the Latin version, deemed  more accurate translation. .

The Lord's Prayer- . To this writer, there is no change to the Lord's prayer. This was and still is the version, she uses when she recite the Lord's prayer. She remembers standing hidden in some obscure corner near the church building , once upon decades ago, watching the celebration of mass...and when voices rose in homage, call for the Father's love and forgiveness, His providence and care, the spirit of a little girl  flowed spontaneously  into the reverence of the prayer....and the feelings and joy of belonging to a Loving Father was forged and bonded. That prayer has stayed steadfastly with her, throughout time, immensely  fruitful  - sparkling the  loving presence of the Father   into her sphere , bringing  to focus His Spirit   and his ever watchful eyes upon her..          As far as this Writer is concerned...no changes there....

The response..."your spirit"? Just for a bit of healthy,  fun reflection and debating-.....and this calls for an open mind.... In the original response -"and with you" .......the "you" obviously refers to the flesh, body and human mass ...embedded with emotions and feelings..." but then, no human mass can survive without the living spirit..  "you" is therefore  both the human mass of a person and  spirit, which is the Being-the Spirit. . In the opinion of this writer, 'You" -  is a complete term in itself.

So should  we response  with -"  your spirit" stressing on the  spirit alone without the body? Can we detach the body away from the spirit? It  would be logical ( as in this case, it appears to be),  if  the spirit,  the living Being  becomes the focal point of the  Human composition - the emphasis - then shifts from the human mass to  prominence of  spirit and soul first. Our spirit and soul are being called to- first connect,- be re-conciliatory with God above. This  consciousness of His presence in our lives-. established  desired ties. . The God conscious  spirit, the breath of our existence,  will then lead and guide the conscious movements, actions  and directions of the human body housing our spirit and soul., so that we would be able to  live more meaningful, fruitful  and useful lives. Perhaps it is a call to more awareness -to the fact that we are spirit first , our existence here on this earth is just temporary...- that  one-day, after we have lived out our purpose, our spirits will have to discard the body and  to return home  to the Creator, to the higher realm. Hence the importance place on the " your spirit" here.

Whatever it is,   every change has its purpose, and we people of faith will heed the call to change and transformation . We are after all a Universal church , with universal standards and practices of  prayer and worship and we will do whatever it takes to be closer to the Spirit of God. .

This parishioner   welcomes  Father Michael Chuah-  visiting priest and soon to be resident priest of the parish to the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes Klang..
