I was on a food pilgrimage over the weekend, joining  a young food loving couple  on their yearly pilgrimage to Penang. Theirs is...no food like Penang food and they needed it to oomph up their energy ..Food elsewhere is just no where near what the Penangites could rustle up......This year , I decided to join them..so the four of us (me & daughter) ...went on this crazy binge..it was food, food and more food...it was above throat level and still they were digging in.....Help! Practically, none stop ...kueh teow (different varieties) , assam laksa, "must have" ice kacang...the best of the best mamak mee...and at night..rounds of unique satay, poh piah , rojak, special coconuts..the list just go on....gosh!!

For Yours Truly, it was a journey down memory lane . The Penang of yesteryears and the Penang of Now, are of two different world...once..serenely peaceful ...now bustling with high rise buildings  and oh so con-jested! Complete new streets from reclaimed land!!. Woh!! ..Penang Island is certainly growing in size! The St. Francis Xavier Church used to such  a majestic landmark, I was always in awe of it...Now  it is sandwiched among development, another beautiful structure., dwarfed.  What a shame that every piece of greens they used to have is now made concrete.

St. Anne's Church Bukit Mertajam on the other hand is a great contrast. ..Delightful, sprawling, serene, spacious...vast improvements have been made but the space and greens are very much in place and I pray it will remain that way....And the beautiful grotto of the Holy Mother..... a splendid structure indeed! The most gorgeous statue who smiles...peace..serenity..blessings!
